FAQ

Unless you're a scientist who enjoys researching polyurethane, chances are you'll have questions about the material that's simply called foam. Here are a few answers to some frequently asked questions that may help. If you can't find the answer you're looking for, give us a call or email your query to info@dunlopfoams.com.au

Q. How do I know if I have Dunlop Foams in a mattress or lounge?

When purchasing insist on Dunlop Foam to be used in the product or design and always look for the Dunlop Foams Guarantee card, which should accompany the item when delivered.

Q. What happens to Dunlop Foams off-cut/scrap?

Dunlop Foams off-cut/scrap foam is recycled through Dunlop Flooring to produce bonded foam used primarily as carpet underlay.

Q. Is a visco-elastic mattress better than a spring or latex mattress?

A visco-elastic mattress is an alternative to the traditional spring construction. Dunlop Foams' ViscoflexTM is a superior visco-elastic cushioning designed to contour precisely to body shape. This contouring effect helps to reduce pressure on the body, providing comfortable support that can reduce tossing and turning and improve sleep quality.

Q. What is the difference between ViscoflexTM and imported visco-elastic foam?

Dunlop ViscoflexTM is a visco-elastic foam perfected by Dunlop Foams specifically for Australian conditions to provide the ultimate night's sleep. It's scientifically developed for consistent performance in any season, and it doesn't need body heat to become comfortable, offering immediate and consistent comfort all year round.

Q. What do we mean by "Lifetime" guarantee?

From the date of purchase for the lifetime of the product as purchased in its original form. In short - until the item is sold or recovered.

Q. My sofa is softer than it was 6 months ago. Why?

Foam can soften 10-15% in the first 3-6 months. This is the natural make-up of foam properties.

Q. Should I rotate my seat cushions?

Yes you should, as this will help all seats to settle and give a consistent feel across your suite.

Q. My Visco overlay foam is no longer white - is it dirty or second-hand foam?

NO: Foam discolours, especially in sunlight. It is a natural property of foam.

Q. Can I get the same foam in a different colour?

NO: The colours are specific to the type of foam. The colouring help manufacturers to distinguish between the foam grades. The colour additive itself has no impact on the quality of the foam.

Q. Should I keep the receipt?

YES: Receipts are essential

Q. Is the firmer cushion better quality?

NO: Quality is measured through the density or weight of the cushion. Some softer cushions may be better quality that harder cushions. The higher the density/ weight the better quality the cushion.

Q. Does the thickness of a cushion affect the guarantee I have?

YES: If a cushion is too thin the manufacturer may void the guarantee. It depends on the application of the cushion to the thickness needed. Refer to your manufacturer for more advice or contact Dunlop Foams.

Q. Does the thickness of a cushion affect the feel and performance?

YES: Matching a specific grade to the application and durability will greatly impact on the feel and support of a cushion.

Q. My cushion looks like it has collapsed because the fabric is now loose. What does this mean?

Fabrics can stretch and cushion covers can move out of place. The foam can be fine; it may be the fabric that is the issue.

Q. What is the benefit of having Ultra-Fresh performance anti-microbial?

As the name suggests, Ultra-Fresh is a performance anti-microbial. Laboratory tests show that foams, fibres and fabrics treated with Ultra-Fresh at the manufacturing stage, provide effective control of house dust mites as well as the growth of destructive mould, mildew and fungi - important triggers for allergic and asthmatic responses, particularly in children.

Q. Is Ultra-Fresh safe?

Ultra-Fresh is a proven performance anti-microbial compound that has passed the most stringent international testing procedures for efficacy and safety. Registered with the world's leading regulatory authorities including the US Environmental Protection Agency and Health Canada. Ultra-Fresh is used in many applications and has been for nearly 50 years.

Q. How long does Ultra-Fresh last in the foam?

Built into Dunlop foams - not applied as an after treatment, Ultra-Fresh withstands repeated commercial and residential cleaning or shampooing.

Q. Can I use an electric blanket with an overlay?

An overlay should not be used in conjunction with an electric blanket.

Q. What is our relationship with the Asthma Foundation and National Asthma Council?

In line with Dunlop Foams' efforts to increase asthma awareness and contribute to its effective management, over $1 million dollars has been contributed to supporting these organisations.
